Green smoothie and granola..what a way to start the day

It is going to be a short post today. I have a few big ones in the works…but they will have to go up this weekend. On a busy day I thought I would bring you my staple breakfast for chaotic mornings. I’m sure many of you already have a favourite green smoothie. Do I live in a strange bubble where everyone drinks down a big jug of green sludge everyday? I know it sounds disgusting. But I promise, if you try it, you will be surprised by the flavour.

I do have my own favourite way to prepare a smoothie full of kale. I like to make my green smoothies the night before. I find the greens become less bitter and it tends to thicken up a bit. I enjoy eating my chilled smoothie with a spoon. It is a super tasty, nutrient-dense pudding.

To add a little extra interest, I like to top the pudding with some buckwheat granola. This is what I had for breakfast today, an apple cinnamon granola on my kale-banana smoothie.
My favourite green smoothie/pudding
1 frozen ripe banana
two handfuls of kale leaves
1 tsp cinnamon
a thumb of fresh ginger, peeled
3 splashes of water
Today I had some frozen conchord grapes (green ones) so I added about a handful to the standard recipe.
I whiz it all up and pour it into a bowl. It hangs out in the freezer over night. The next morning I pull it out of the fridge, toss on some granola and dig in.
If you haven’t tried a green smoothie I think this is the weekend for your new adventure. It would be a great way to balance out some of the Thanksgiving indulgences.

That is a lot like my standard green smoothie 🙂 Especially love fresh ginger in them!

never tried the ginger–good idea. I usually tend towards cacao smoothies but have been meaning to go GREEN. I'm going to try this!
