Last year, I found myself among a select group of lucky Viva Vegan testers who had the opportunity to try out the delicious creations of recipe savant Terry Hope Romero. It was a joy to experience the passion she brought to the process. Her dedication to delivering an amazing cookbook that truly celebrated the diversity of Latin cuisine was demonstrated through her responsive revisions and perfectionist percision.
I used the testing opportunity to share fabulous vegan fare with my colleagues by creating a tasting team at work. Once a week, I prepared a four-course lunch – they covered the cost of ingredients and shared their feedback. People were consistently impressed by the flavours in Terry’s menus and everyone developed new appreciation for tofu, beans and rice. The tasting team became quite the exclusive club with people clamouring to fill the coveted positions when a member was away from the office!
In honour of Viva Vegan‘s official launch date I wanted to share a few photos of the fantastic feast that I prepared over the months of testing. I can’t say enough about how incredible Terry’s recipes are. If you love Latin flavours you really need to get this book. If you just kind-of-like Latin flavours then I think Terry will seduce you after just a few recipe attempts – trust me, she’s knows how to make magic with a little cumin and a clove of garlic.
Feast your eyes on these delicious vegan meals:
Terry will be hosting a book launch at MooShoes in NYC next Thursday. I plan to be there and will report back with all of the details.
By the way, Terry is one of those kind, generous spirits that make you feel fantastic when you get to spend a little time in their presence. My Mom still gushes about her brief interaction with Terry in Toronto. I hope Terry is very proud of her first solo writing project, her early work resulted in the amazing success of Vegnomicon, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar, coauthored with her good friend Isa Chandra Moskowitz.
