Vegan MoFo Day 10: The 30-Day Vegan Challenge

If you’re not already vegan, I hope the amazing Vegan MoFo posts from the last ten days have encouraged you to think differently about a plant-based diet.
This week I will be sharing reviews of amazing books written by the people who inspire, educate and motivate me to live a life full of wellness, compassion and joy. The authors I will highlight over the next five days are my meatless mentors and steadfast examples of compassion in action.

First, I’d like to share with you a new book that has become my go-to guide to answering questions about veganism: The 30-Day Vegan Challenge. Since it hit the shelves in August, it has become my reference guide to all things vegan. Now, when someone asks me a difficult question about ethics, nutrition or cruelty-free choices I know where to turn.

Written by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, The 30-Day Vegan Challenge is a beautiful, accessible and amazingly comprehensive guide to being vegan.

Although the title says “challenge” this book motivates through ensuring success rather than fear of failure. The warm, supportive tone allows the reader to feel confident about navigating new ways of thinking about life, food, consumerism and nutrition.

It is hard to describe a book that so competently addresses every single issue you may encounter as you transition to a vegan lifestyle. The subtitle is “the ultimate guide to eating cleaner, getting leaner and living compassionately”. I can’t argue with any of that. Colleen has pulled together an incredible resource that anyone can turn to for answers and inspiration (even those of us who have been vegan for more than twenty years).

The 30-Day Vegan Challenge addresses the difficulties associated with this significant lifestyle change in a straight-forward manner, offering answers, strategies and practical tips. Regardless of the reason someone may have been concerned about trying a vegan diet, Colleen has them covered.

Concerns about calcium? ? (Cut out the middle cow and get your calcium straight from the source.)
Terrified of tofu? ? (It’s just a bean that offers an amazing array of texture and flavour potential.)
Worried about weight management? ? (Choose calories that contribute to short- and long-term health.)
Stressed by social situations? ? (Speak up with truth, grace and integrity.)
Nervous about navigating plant-based nutrition?? (Iron, Zinc, Omegas…we’ve got a plant for that.)

Along with all that useful information, there are 100 satisfying recipes that provide both great nutrition and fantastic flavour.

For example, the Cannellini Bean Salad with Fresh Herbs (pg. 107)

This book is a gift. If you or someone you know has been contemplating veganism then please pick up a copy. If you’re a long-time vegan who is often required to recite the nutritional adequacy of a vegan diet, do yourself a favour and post-it note your own copy of The 30-Day Vegan Challenge.

But don’t just take my word for it:
