Crispy Cereal

I’ll be serving up awesome dishes from the menu of my imaginary vegan B&B all month long.

Good morning, my friends.

It has been so much fun having you stay with me at the B&B – I love that you appreciate my collection of cats in hats. I left some back issues of VegNews on your nightstand, just in case you finish your copy of MainStreet Vegan before you leave.

After yesterday’s crepes, I felt you might like something a little lighter today. I know you have your VegDirectory all highlighted for a day of urban hiking and vegan discoveries.

I thought you might like a simple bowl of cereal. I made the flakes myself. Oh you’re too kind! For you, homemade flakes are no bother at all.

If you’d like a little more spice next time I could try something more reminiscent of that cinnamon toast cereal that was all the rage back in the day. Oh, I have some almond, pecan milk in the fridge. I’ll just go grab the jug.

Crispy Cereal

  • 2 cups buckwheat groats, soaked 1 hour
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar (mine is infused with ginger)
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup

  1. Blend all of the ingredients together, until smooth.
  2. Spread evenly on 2 Teflex-line dehydrator trays. It should be approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Dehydrate at 115F for 10 hours. Flip and continue to dehydrate until completely dry.
  4. Break into small flakes. Store in an air-tight container.
  5. Serve with fruit and your favourite non-dairy milk.

Have a wonderful adventure today. I’ll make sure there is a warm drink awaiting your return.

I miss you too! I would love to have you here to wander the markets, search out the health foods stores and enjoy finding vegan pain au chocolate! I’ll be home soon and I think you’ll be seeing a lot of me 🙂
